Lions maul Dingoes

PAKENHAM maintained a fourquarter effort against a young and inexperienced Dingley to win Saturday’s clash at the Dingo den by 138 points.
Full forward Simon Ponter was on his game, kicking eight goals, while Sam Paynter kicked four and Paul Gramc three in a scoring blitz that lasted most of the day. The disappointment of the afternoon was the fact that despite Pakenham having most of the play and 57 shots at goal, the side was very inaccurate and booted 34 behinds.
Beau Wheeler put on his usual elusive display, while John Atwell and Nathan Lieshout were also very good around the forward half.
The Dingoes tried hard all day but Pakenham was too slick and set up a big game with Beaconsfield in two weeks’ time.
Scores: Pakenham 23.34.172 d Dingley 4.10.34.
Goals: S. Ponter 8, S Paynter 4, P. Gramc 3, R. Elston 2, J. Goldsack, M. Holland, B. Wheeler, C Millidonis, J. Atwell, J. Allen 1.
Best: B. Wheeler, J. Atwell, S. Ponter, N. Lieshout, J. Allen, C. Cherry.

RESERVES

After a slow start to the season, Pakenham reserves were looking to make it three wins in a row against a severely undermanned Dingley. After helping out Dingley by supplying a couple of players, Pakenham jumped out of the blocks with a blistering 10goal opening quarter thanks to the midfield of Matt Wouters, Evan Broadbent and Corey Lenders, who kept the supply up to comeback forward Daniel Fry. Coach Justin Pearson was happy with the fast moving, unselfish football and this continued with a ninegoal second quarter highlighted by the Lions’ small forwards getting among the goals.
With a target of 40 goals set by the coach and with goals coming thick and fast in the second half, the team manager’s pen was running out of ink. Best players in an even team performance were Fry, who booted eight goals, Broadbent, who controlled the midfield and kicked six majors and Wouters and Lenders, who gathered possessions at will. Credit should go to Dingley for fighting it out to the end.
Scores: Pakenham 40.23.263 d Dingley 2.0.12.
