UPPER Beaconsfield’s B and Cgrade teams scored resounding wins in the only oneday fixture for the season to keep their finals campaigns alive.
B GRADE
The Maroons drew a big a crowd for their first match to be played at the Upper Beaconsfield Reserve.
Ladies Day was a success with many female supporters in the marquees erected inside the boundary line.
Pakenham Upper batted first and was only able to compile 133 as a consequence of steady bowling from Scott Pitcher, Luke Pitcher, Glen Kilburn and Aaron Gray.
In response Upper Beaconsfield batsmen started strongly and continued the chase towards victory.
Julian Bayard (34) and David Taylor (43) built a handy base that was then built upon by Richie Goodenough (58) Luke Pitcher (14) and Matt Scanlon.
The team finished on 4/212 from its 40 overs to record a big win.
C GRADE
Upper Beaconsfield met Gembrook, batted first and reached 6/217 as a consequence of some exceptional batting from Dave Ardley as well as Chris Curran who opened and scored a handy 53. David Ardley continued his delightful stroke making, amassing 83.
Chris Reid again clubbed the ball aggressively to hit up a quick 20, while Luke Williams managed a whirlwind 22 scored from only 18 balls.
The Maroons finally thwarted the Brookers who reached 183.
UNDER 13
After the Christmas break available players were scarce, but fortunately there were four who were able to help out by playing – Jayden Gee, Kyle McManus and the West boys, Tom and Joseph.
The captain this week against Gembrook was Kyle Gibbs who has been having a good year and after winning the toss, elected to bowl.
All 10 bowled well and fielded with the same intensity.
Some of the wicket takers were Matt Hutson (3/5), Joseph West (1/2), Kyle Gibbs (1/6), Kyle McManus (1/7) and Scott Grey (1/7).
This gave Gembrook the opportunity to score only 47 runs with all batsmen out.
Upper Beaconsfield opened the batting with Jye McManus and Will Russell, who both retired on 15. They were followed by Scott Grey (10 retired), Jayden Gee (15 retired) and Tom West (15 retired).
Kyle Gibbs (7) showed excellent teamwork with a couple of wickets falling during his innings.
The Maroons finished 3/111 in a great team effort played in good spirits.
