THE highlights of the Nepean League round included an exciting draw between Crib Point and Red Hill and another dominant performance from goalkicking maestro Simon Goosey.
Goosey booted his second consecutive bag of 11 majors for Dromana on Saturday, helping the Tigers to an 87point win over a disappointing Somerville. Goosey moved to the top of the goalkickers table with the bag, despite only playing two games to date this year.
The draw with the Magpies was a great result for bottom side Red Hill, after a disappointing start to the year. Magpie Luke Herrington starred with seven goals.
Pearcedale surprised third placed Frankston Bombers with their intensity, but could not sustain the pace in the final term, finally suffering a 22point loss.
Youngster Nick Walsh booted three goals for the Panthers, while Daniel Murray, Kaine Smith and Shane Urbans were among the side’s best players. Coach Leigh Stewart led Frankston superbly all day.
Other results in the division saw Langwarrin retain top spot with a 46point win over Rosebud and Rye record a solid 44point result over Tyabb.
In Peninsula League, a goal after the final siren by Frankston YCW saw the Stonecats snatch a fourpoint win over Karingal, after the Bulls had led for most of the afternoon.
EdithvaleAspendale also had a close call against Pines, winning the clash by 10 points, while Bonbeach’s bubble burst when it was comprehensively outgunned by Mt Eliza, losing by 94 points.
Mornington had a 54point victory over Hastings, while the Sunday game saw Chelsea outplay Seaford in wet and slippery conditions to win by 20 points.
