Offtarget win for Lions

PAKENHAM seniors, although downing Devon Meadows by more than 11 goals on Saturday, was plagued by inaccuracy, kicking 28 points.
The Lions kicked to the scoring end in the first quarter, but like previous matches could not convert, kicking a staggering two goals, nine behinds. To the team’s credit however, it never let Devon Meadows into the game, but missed out on a percentage booster, having 48 scoring shots to eight for a 70point winning margin.
There were plenty of positives to come from the game and the major one was the debut performance of Lion cub, Paul Gramc, who kicked a goal and showed he will be an exciting future prospect in the maroon and blue. Another young cub, Casey Cherry, also continued his form in taking on and beating the opposition’s numberone forward and Matt Ahern returned to form with a great game in defence.
The club congratulated coach Michael Holland, cocaptain Justin Sutherland, Jared Goldsack and Nathan Brown on their selection in the MPNFL representative squad for Sunday’s game at Berwick.
Scores: Pakenham 12.26.98 d Devon Meadows 4.4.28.

RESERVES

In a rematch of last year’s grand final, the Lions again were the victors against Devon Meadows.
Pakenham came out of the blocks and played its best quarter of football for some time, kicking 10 goals to one and setting up a big win by 87 points.
Johnny Atwell returned to his stellar form with three goals and Sean Gramc and Shane Laszczyk were lively up forward kicking two and five goals respectively.
Brian Cook and Craig Gordon both continued their recent good form and Troy Willis also showed he is enjoying being back in the Lions jumper, with two goals. Justin Pearson kicked three goals up forward and Scott Webster at the other end put a stop to many Devon Meadows forward passages of play.
Scores: Pakenham 18.17.125 d Devon Meadows 6.2.38.

UNDER 18

Coming off its first win for the season the previous week, the confidence of the team was up and this showed in the first quarter, kicking five goals to one.
However, it took its foot off the pedal and ended up going down to Devon Meadows by 22 points.
Dom Paynter again showed his leadership and his skills with an excellent game. Jon Higgins, Josh Howe and Mitchell Abbott tried hard all game, while Barry Donaldson was the only multiple goal kicker with two majors.
Scores: Pakenham 7.5.47 lost to Devon Meadows 9.15.69.
