On the road again

CLYDE Road, from Kangan Drive to High Street, was top of the list during a City of Casey meeting with Casey members of parliament.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford hosted the briefing, which focused on State Government funding for arterial roads, duplications, and intersection upgrades in the municipality.
Cr Bradford told the parliamentarians that Casey’s five most urgent road duplications were Clyde Road from Kangan Drive to High Street, Hallam Road from the Princes Highway to Pound Road, Hallam Road from Pound Road to Fordholm Road, Thompsons Road from the Narre Warren Cranbourne Road to South Gippsland Highway, and Thompsons Road from the South Gippsland Highway to Evans Road.
Cr Bradford said the council recognised the financial commitment of the State Government in upgrading arterial roads in Casey with $50 million currently being spent.
“However, as the area continues to grow at a rapid rate, constant improvement is the only way to ensure the road network copes with increasing traffic volumes.”
He said the five most urgent intersection upgrades are were Hallam and Ormond Roads, Clyde Road and Enterprise Avenue, South Gippsland Highway and Hallam — Evans Roads, Clyde Road and High Street, and the Pound Road South Gippsland Freeway Interchange.
“Due to Casey’s considerable growth several local roads are now clearly providing a significant arterial function.”
He said the council was seeking government support in its request to VicRoads to reclassify some municipal roads to arterial roads.
He said Harkaway Road in Berwick was among these because it provided a northsouth arterial connection between BerwickCranbourne Road and Wellington Road.
