Pakenham powers in close win

PAKENHAM Netball Club’s Agrade team won a close and exciting game against Berwick by two goals on Saturday.
Pakenham started well with the defence adjusting after the first quarter and giving many opportunities for the attack end.
With excellent passages of play, the girls’ teamwork and endeavour was totally focussed.
Scores: Pakenham 40 d Berwick 38.
Best: Kasey Bergin, Mel Henwood and Alanna Goldsack.

B GRADE

Pakenham started well with great work all over the court, setting up a good lead at halftime.
Toni Dart stepped on court and opened up the play, giving the centre space and movement to take ownership in the last quarter.
Both teams played desperately and with dedication, but Pakenham’s strength and fitness in the last quarter saw the team dominate in an excellent quarter of netball.
Scores: Pakenham 44 d Berwick 30. Best: Bree Czempinski and Teniele Atwell.

C GRADE

With only five permanent Cgraders, under 17s filled the positions.
The team adjusted to the new players and positions and recorded a good win.
Scores: Pakenham 46 d Berwick 37.
Best: Tanya Evans and Cassie Bridgett.

UNDER 17

The first three quarters had some great talking and strong leads by Pakenham, with excellent backup of loose balls.
Accurate goaling saw Pakenham fight off Berwick in the last quarter.
Scores: Pakenham 34 d Berwick 20.
Best: Meaghan Cook and Brianna Osmond.

UNDER 15

Pakenham started well, but was pressured by Berwick into some bad play.
Some changes were made that saw centre court taking ownership with good communication with the defenders.
Scores: Pakenham 26 d Berwick 17.
Best: Amy Round, Carleen Johnson and Nat Horua.

UNDER 13

A great effort by the young team that saw some players out through injury and new combinations tried.
It was a strong defensive game from Sophie Tracey, Rebecca Christie and newcomer Emily Talbot.
With scores level at threequarter time, Pakenham was able to play a strong final quarter.
Scores: Berwick 20 d Pakenham 12.
Award: Sophie Tracey.

CLUB NOTES

The 80s function was an excellent night and all who attended and supported the club were thanked.
The club’s general meeting will be held at the social rooms on Tuesday, 2 May at 6.30pm.
