Police seize car under hoon law

A MOTORIST driving at more than double the speed limit through Officer became the first to have his car seized by Pakenham Police under Victoria’s new antihoon laws.
The 29yearold Longwarry man was clocked travelling at 159 km/h in a 70 km/h zone in a Toyota Camry he had borrowed from a friend.
The motorist was travelling towards Pakenham when he was intercepted by police at about 5.30 am on Friday, 29 September.
Police said the car was doing almost 90 kilometres an hour over the speed limit as it passed through the Officer township.
Police impounded the car which was also found to be unroadworthy, Cardinia Traffic Management Unit Sergeant Peter Garton said. The motorist is expected to face court at a later date.
Police have welcomed the new laws which Sgt Garton hoped would act as a deterrent to young motorists keen on flouting road rules.
Cars seized under the laws are impounded for at least 48 hours and motorists must pay a fee to get their vehicle back on top of any other penalties.
