CARDINIA Shire Council and chief executive officer Don Welsh remain in negotiation over terms for an agreement to go their separate ways.
The Gazette reported last week that the council and the CEO were poised to part company.
The council and the CEO are believed to be in the final stages of negotiations over a ‘mutually acceptable’ separation agreement.
Mr Welsh has been on extended leave since the start of the year and is not expected to return to the position he has held since 1998.
Circumstances surrounding the impending split have not been made public, although there has been mounting speculation about Mr Welsh’s future in the wake of the dramatic November council elections when three new councillors were elected on a platform that included reviewing senior management.
