Team weathers the storm

By Jim Mynard
UPPER Beaconsfield Primary School’s human powered vehicle (HPV) team won first place in the RACV Energy Breakthrough Program at Maryborough during the school holidays.
The school entered two HPV teams and one pushcart team.
The HPV teams consisted of one endurance team, Desert Storm, and one triathlon team, Eye of the Storm.
The Desert Storm team consisted of four boys and four girls from grade six, while Eye of the Storm consisted of six boys from grade six and one year eight boy.
Due to this team only having boys it had to compete in the open section, which was against 13 secondary schools.
Both teams spent six months training for the event and performed to their highest ability.
Desert Storm came 20th overall in a huge field, and 13th in their 16hour endurance race. The school has thanked coach Briodie Priddle who has been the main driving force behind the teams for the past few years.
Eye of the Storm went in with no expectations, but with a new cart.
The boys were placed sixth in their time trials, third in design and construction, second place in scrutineering and presentation, second in obstacles, and first in the eighthour endurance race.
