Donaldson bags 10 for Wickers

BERWICK seems to play well against Devon Meadows and quickly took control of Saturday’s game with an impressive, disciplined display.
Last season against Meadows George Gorozidis kicked 14.7 in a memorable performance and, on Saturday, Ryan Donaldson kicked 10.1 in an outstanding game.
With Gorozidis on the flank feeding Donaldson, Chris Kickett and Matthew Fowler, the Wickers were certain to finish with a matchwinning score. Gorozidis is a selfless player who never gives up and puts in 110 per cent for his team and club each week. Ainsley Betts at full back, Dan O’Hara and Johnnie McNamara and Kirk Betts dominating around the packs moved the ball swiftly from the back line through the centre. Kickett was also impressive, finishing with four goals.
The Wickers kicked 15 goals after the quartertime break to Devon Meadows’ three, which showed the dominance of the home team. There were few turnovers. Some of McNamara’s influence must be rubbing off as he rarely wastes a possession and kicks long to position. The Wickers were full of running when the final siren sounded. The senior side appears quite settled and with the possible inclusion of Dale Robinson in the coming weeks will be a competitive side.
Scores: Berwick 21.15.141 d Devon Meadows 7.4.46.
Goals: R. Donaldson 10, C. Kickett 4, K. Betts 2, G. Gorozidis, R. Nisbet, S. Warlapinni 1.
Best: A. Betts, R. Donaldson, J. McNamara, G. McLean, K. Betts.

RESERVES

It was a good win by Berwick, which was dominant from start to finish running out comfortable winners by 11 goals in a display of systematic team footy. The Wickers were switched on from the first bounce with fantastic games from Steve Dyson, Sam Tuck, Matt Ravenhall, Sam Bennett, Jason Kelly and Marty McGauran. Dale Robinson performed well on his return after missing several games through injury. Jason Dodd was serviceable and is becoming more versatile with each game. Craig Donaldson is improving and will increase his value to the team as he gains further match fitness.
Scores: Berwick 16.20.116 d Devon Meadows 5.0.30.
Goals: S. Tuck, S. Dyson 4, G. Keet 2, S. Bennett, D. Robinson, J. Day, J. Dodd, M. Ravenhall, M. McGauran 1.
Best: S. Dyson, S. Bennett, J. Kelly, M. McGauran, J. Day.

UNDER 18

The Wickers were again the victors in a onesided match against Devon Meadows. The visitors were more competitive than Tooradin last week, but with several of their good players in the ones and twos, they were depleted on the day. However, the Wickers are enjoying their footy and each week someone else pops up for a great performance in front of goal. Last week Robert Witt kicked five of the team’s 16 goals with Campbell and Andrews kicking three apiece.
Scores: Berwick 16.19.115 d Devon Meadows 6.2.38.
Goals: R. Witt 5, T. Andrews, T. Campbell 3, C. Dyker, K. Fowler, S. Barnes, S. Brady, C. Vigona 1.
Best: J. Barrow, M. Bradbury, S. Brady, T. Andrews, R. Witt.

CLUB NOTES

The major raffle will be held on Sunday, 4 June and tickets are available from Peter Phillips. The comedy night will be on 20 May after the Beaconsfield game.
