Goon comes home with wins

FOR round four Nar Nar Goon travelled to NilmaDarnum on Sunday to be part of the football club’s 1000th game celebrations. Nar Nar Goon again won in all grades other than C grade.

A GRADE

A great team effort produced a solid win for Nar Nar Goon. Sam Cox and Rebecca Murphy shot accurately, even as torrential rain poured down in the third quarter, testing all players. Sam Hodge and Linsey Boddy were devastating in defence, while Narelle Walker at wing defence took many intercepts through the midcourt. The systems were beginning to work well and provide the team with a focus.
Scores: Nar Nar Goon 57 d NilmaDarnum 38.

B GRADE

The Goon had a great win after scores were tight throughout. The goalers did well against NilmaDarnum’s strong defenders. Julia McPhee showed strong drive through the centre and Cassie McMillan was strong in defence, making many intercepts throughout.
Scores: Nar Nar Goon 45 d NilmaDarnum 39. Best: Cassie McMillan, Julia McPhee.

C GRADE

The Goon took the court with another new lineup and welcomed Kate Marquis and Deanna Gallasch to the team. There was strong defence by all players throughout. With a more settled team the Goon’s play should continue to improve. Scores: NilmaDarnum 33 d Nar Nar Goon 15. Best: Tracey O’Neill.

17 AND UNDER

The Goon played a great game, never losing the lead. Defensively the team played well and the midcourt made many intercepts. Gwen Jones in centre and Sarah Van Boxtel changed each quarter, doing extremely well. Mirae Payroli at goal defence and Chantelle Joosten at goal keeper proved far too strong and countless intercepts were then converted by Prue Evans, who was again on fire, shooting 33 goals.
Scores: Nar Nar Goon 46 d NilmaDarnum 22. Best: E and C Joinery Prue Evans.

15 AND UNDER

Nar Nar Goon combined well as a team. Georgia Keysers, Haley Dore and Jodie Van Boxtel played a terrific defensive game. Ashlee Dore and Meaghan Douglas just get better in goals each week with the assistance of Jenna Noonan and Hannah Sweeney.
Scores: Nar Nar Goon 40 d Nyora 6. Best: Hannah Sweeney.

13 AND UNDER

Belinda and Jemma Kerr played fine first games for the Goon. The Goon was competitive all day and Claire Templeton, Ruby Riley and Kate Hughes helped the team adjust and make many turnovers. Bridgette Scott put up a great effort in defence, keeping the opposition scoreless in the first half.
Scores: Nar Nar Goon 20 d NilmaDarnum 9. Best: Riley Socks Bridgette Scott.
