Pakenham police called to Drouin brawl

PAKENHAM police were called to help settle a street brawl in Drouin last week in which three police officers were injured, seven people arrested and two police cars damaged.
The brawl was said to have involved up to 50 people and police were pelted with rocks, bottles and pieces of timber after they responded to a noise complaint at a party in Ferris Street.
Police used capsicum spray to control the brawlers.
Police from Drouin and Warragul initially attended but called for reinforcements after they had rocks and bottles thrown at them.
Acting Senior Sergeant Stuart Halligan said one unit was sent from Pakenham and extra police had also come from Morwell, Moe and Endeavour Hills.
Three dog squad units and members of the force response unit from Melbourne also attended.
Seven people were charged with offences including affray, rioting, assaulting police and criminal damage.
Police were called about 12.20am on Thursday morning after receiving complaints from neighbours about noise at a birthday party.
The injured police were all from Warragul.
Excessive drinking was said to be the main reason for the incident, which attracted statewide media attention.
