Panthers fail in run hunt

DEVON Meadows failed to capitalise on a solid opening partnership, capitulating to be all out for 121 off just 53 overs against Cardinia on Saturday.
After being sent in on a slow Junction Village Reserve, Daniel Steet (26) and Darren Cooper shared a 38run opening stand, ending when Cooper (21) skied a sweep shot off Dwayne Doig’s first over.
Devon Meadows failed to establish any meaningful partnerships for the remainder of its innings, poor shot selection and execution seeing the home side stumble to 5/87 at tea.
After the resumption, clean hitting from skipper Danny Diwell (37) kept the scoreboard ticking over, however no Panther batsmen could combat the tight line and length from Doig as he claimed seven Panther scalps.
An inspired early spell from Travis Canavan (2/9 off eight overs) gave the Panthers hope as the Bulls slipped to 2/8, however the visitors consolidated before reaching 2/40 at stumps.

The Panthers are set for another big run chase after Beaconsfield reached 9/266.
Peter Zauner (1/25) took an early wicket, however the Tigers dictated much of the early session before Luke Wishart (2/44) and Lincoln Hepburn (1/62) claimed three wickets between them to leave the game delicately balanced, the Tigers 4/94 at tea.
The introduction of Cory Leslie (3/34) ended a 73run fifthwicket stand and with Justin Mentiplay (2/42) had reduced Beaconsfield to 9/209 after 63 overs.
However some lusty hitting and poor catching saw the home side add 57 runs for the last wicket off the final seven overs.

The clash with Cardinia is delicately poised, the Panthers reaching 2/27 in reply to the Bulls’ 180.
Brett Vance claimed 3/40, Scott Nicholls 3/42 and Matt Pappas 2/39 as the Panthers worked their way through the Bull’s line up despite, dropping several chances.
In reply, Vance blasted 20 before being adjudged lbw shortly before bad light ended play.

Only Paul Ladiges (1/24) and Alan Tibballs (1/30) took wickets as Gembrook blasted 2/162 on its way to a 24run win over the Panthers.
In reply, Ladiges (32), Alan Tibballs (28), Brenton Tibballs (22) and Trav Mohr reached double figures as the Panthers reached 9/137 after 35 overs.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 14 WHITE

Devon Meadows went down by 75 runs against Kooweerup.
Defending 98, the Panther bowlers bowled far too short as the young Demons reached their target with the loss of only one wicket. Kyle Salerno (2/13), Kye Gillespie (2/17), Jarryd Harley (2/20), Arthur Churchill (1/12) and Mitch Kemp (1/18) took wickets.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 14 RED

Devon Meadows went down fighting, despite losing outright against Lang Lang.
Resuming at 4/35 in reply to the Panther’s 30, Jason Riley (3/2), Craig Bradley (3/16), Luke Ostram (1/6) and Callum McLean (1/11) all bowled well to dismiss the home side for 71.
With just seven players available, Chris Benedek (eight) and Riley (eight not out) saw the Panthers reach 36 off 14 overs.
