Bombers win on reunion day

EMERALD teams put on a great display for supporters as well as invited members at the club’s reunion on Saturday, winning by 11 points.
Emerald met Yarra Glen at Emerald in good playing conditions and again the team had few changes from the previous weeks, which showed stability in the team.
From the first bounce Emerald was determined to be first at the ball. The endeavour of all players before the first break put the Bombers one goal up against the breeze.
In the second quarter a more determined Yarra Glen prevented too many scoring opportunities for Emerald and outscored the Bombers, going into the main break only two points behind. This set the stage for an exciting second half.
In the third quarter Yarra Glen quickly posted a couple of goals to grab a fivegoal lead halfway through the third quarter. Emerald again lifted and managed to peg back a couple of goals, however still went into the last break three goals down.
In the last quarter a far more determined Emerald side ran out and contested every ball, preventing Yarra Glen scoring any goals for the quarter while scoring 4.4, giving the Bombers the lead in the final minutes of the quarter.
Scores: Emerald 12.15.87 d Yarra Glen 11.10.76.
Goals: Clinton Marsh, Rod Smith 3, Jon Lanyon, Nathan Hill 2, Brendan Parker, Josh Huisintvelt 1.

RESERVES

Emerald started the first quarter kicking against a stiff breeze and managed to contain Yarra Glen to three goals while scoring two themselves.
In the second quarter Emerald took advantage of the wind and outscored Yarra Glen by three goals to take a handy lead going into the main break.
In the third quarter Emerald tried its hardest and was rewarded with three goals to two, taking a handy lead going into the last quarter with the wind.
In the last quarter Emerald took over and kicked six further goals to Yarra Glen’s one.
Scores: Emerald 15.15.105 d Yarra Glen 7.8.50.
Goals: Andrew Rolfs, Peter McLean 4, Brad Sands 2, Damien Whyte, Michael Whitehead, Lux Fakiki, Graeme Steer, Nathan Diemar 1.

UNDER 18

In the first quarter Emerald combined and moved the ball with good skills and contained the opposition to one goal while scoring six themselves.
In the second quarter it was a more closely contested game as Emerald kicked against the wind but still managed to outscore the opposition three goals to two, giving the Bombers a good lead going into the main break.
In the second half Emerald took control, allowing Yarra Glen only one goal while posting another eight.
