DRAINS around Bunyip have been targeted by Cardinia Shire Council for intensive maintenance works.
Council’s new drainage strategy breaks the municipality up into five zones, each of which is targeted by work crews in a bid to reduce blockage and flooding.
The state of drains in rural areas is a regular issue of concern in the community.
Bunyip Ward councillor Helen Ward said the council’s aim was to improve the overall capacity and condition of drains and, ultimately, unsealed roads.
The new strategy meant maintenance teams would focus on each zone for a period of two to three months, in which all of council’s drainage equipment would be used to conduct preventative maintenance, Cr Ward said.
