CORA Lynn had a great day, resulting in four wins for the first time since joining the Ellinbank and District League. The Cobras’ firsts, seconds and thirds were expecting wins but for the fifths, who hadn’t won a game since their the beginning last year, it was a great result.
In the firsts the opening quarter was a lacklustre affair with some uninspired play by the Cobras, who were surprised by the pressure applied by NilmaDarnum.
After a blast from the coach at the break Cora Lynn worked harder in the second term and showed signs of what was to come.
In the second half players were working much harder and applying pressure all over the ground and feeding the ball accurately to the leading forwards.
The withdrawal of Ben Airdrie gave John Nichols the chance to step up and he grabbed this with both hands, kicking seven goals, as did Dave Barrie. Jason Hall created opportunities all day, Scott Black and Justin Olsen worked hard on the back line and onballers Chad Ingram and Abe Roder put in strong performances.
In the end Cora Lynn kicked its highestever score and showed that with continued effort and application it will be a force to be reckoned with.

RESERVES
The twos went into the game without a recognised ruckman so the smalls had to work hard to get clearances from the centre. The back line was able to clear the ball and with the forward line well on top the Cobras had a good win.
Chase Saunders was best on the ground and Steve Newton and Will van Diemen worked hard in and under the pack. Cam Haynes was strong up forward.

UNDER 17
In a hardfought match the Cobras were successful again. The first half was a scrappy affair, both sides taking a while to settle after the Easter break.
NilmaDarnum had a lot of possession in its forward line early, putting a lot of pressure on Cora Lynn’s defences.
As the game wore on Cora Lynn was able to use the ball a bit better, resulting in a few scoring opportunities.
In the second half, sound defence and precise use of the ball enabled the Cobras to take charge but wasteful kicking limited the size of the lead.
The best football was played in the last 10 minutes with great transfers of play and forward movement enabling the Cobras to take control.
The onball brigade was solid all day.

UNDER 13
For the first time in 20 games Cora Lynn’s fifths were able to walk of the ground with a win. Coming up against a team of the same size, the Cobras were not intimidated by size and were able to go with the game with confidence to use their skills.
