SPRINGFIELD Ward councillor Lorraine Wreford wants government grants for sport and recreation to be based on population and not individual municipalities.
Cr Wreford said one example of the inequity was that the population of Casey was several times that of the Bass Coast Shire.
“We have to accept the same level of government funding.
“The City of Casey needs to lobby for what is fair and right for its residents.
“The present situation is incredibly unfair,” she said.
Cr Wreford successfully asked the council to lobby the Minister for Sport and Recreation, Justin Madden, to amend the Government’s guidelines for major recreation facility grants to recognise large growth municipalities.
Four Oaks ward councillor Rob Wilson asked that the letter to the minister refer to all departments.
However, Casey director of community services, Jennie Lee, said the problem was isolated to sport and recreation.
