Handy win boosts Garfield up bowling ladder

GARFIELD Bowls Club’s divisiontwo team had a good win against Traralgon on Saturday by seven shots and gained 13 valuable points.
Traralgon was ahead of Garfield on the ladder prior to the match.
Scores were; Stephen Whyte, Stephen Bassed, Ray Biffin and Tom Cleary lost to R Crane 15 to 28.
Gary Payne, Peter Gallasch, Shane Oliver and Bob Lamport tied with R. McEwan 23 shots each.
Les Pumphrey, Hank Wouters, Colin Carmichael and Frank Prins lost to K Smith 22 to 24.
The best rink of the day was Colin Mills’ team of Jim Oliver, Stu Robertson and Russell Bruce defeated G. Matrriott 36 to 14.

DIVISION SIX

Garfield (62) went down to Warragul (5) by four shots.
Scores were Bob Hope, Laurence Wright, Wayne Gunton and Bill Doherty defeated M Cousins 23 to 17.
Alex Mentiplay, Reg Mattingley, Geoff Gaskell and Matthew Smith lost to W. Boscombe 19 to 29.
Garfield (63) lost to Warragul (4) by six shots.
Scores were Gordon Beer, Don Knight, Barrie Smith and Adrian Helmuth defeated D Grogan 36 to 30.
Les Shatwell, Bill Charles, John Rose and Wes Goodman lost to J. Connop 16 to 28.

LADIES PENNANT

Tuesday pennant saw a Garfield’s divisionthree team go down to last year’s premiers, Yarragon, 50 shots to 82, winning one rink on the day.
Rose Shaw, Joan Garvey, Joan Donovan and Margaret Charles lost to E. Jephson 21 to 25.
Eleanor Lee, Judy Prentice, Pat Marriott and Fay Carmichael defeated M. Williams 18 to 17.
Lyn Oliver, Bev Sainsbery, Bill Charles and Maureen Lamport lost to D Lewis 11 to 40.
Saturday ladies pennant was a good day overall for Garfield due to a good win by Eleanor Lee’s team, defeating Boolarra 54 to 44.
Scores were; Eleanor Lee, Bev Sainsbery and Fay Carmichael defeated R Simpson 31 to 17.
Judy Prentice, Rose Shaw and Maureen Lamport lost to N Roy 23 to 27.
