Lions’ attack grounds Seagulls

PAKENHAM’S A-grade bowlers kept Tooradin’s respected batting line-up to a modest 202 on Saturday ensuring a tight tussle this weekend.
The Lions lost the toss and were asked to bowl and had the Seagulls 2/53 after 21 overs.
Best of the bowlers were Andrew Cooper (5/67 from 30.5 overs) and Jason Williams (2/64 from 24 overs).

B GRADE

Pakenham played Beaconsfield with seven new players due to absence of regular B-grade players. Three F-grade and four D-grade players made up the side.
The Lions won the toss and elected to bat after losing the first wicket on six. Greg Hogben, coming off a maiden century, formed a partnership with Dennis Porter (35) to be 2/48 off 12 overs.
Beaconsfield got back in the game by taking another wicket, but a partnership between Hogben and Darrin Crawford (22) got the score to 94. After two more wickets, Jack Ryan and Hogben advanced the score to 158.
Hogben finished on 62 and Pakenham was left 9/202 after the allotted overs.

D GRADE

Pakenham won the toss and elected to bowl at Clyde.
The first wicket fell in the eighth over, starting a collapse by the Cougars and Pakenham bowled out Clyde for 98. Best of the bowlers were David Selby (3/16), Graham McCraw (3/20) and Adrian Bailey (3/25).
Pakenham was 1/13 in the fourth over and passed Clyde’s score in the 26th over.
Pakenham ended the day 6/104.
Scott Webster made 51, Andrew Parker 10, Graham McCraw 10 not out and Jason Turner 5 not out.

E GRADE

Playing Beaconsfield, Pakenham lost the toss and was asked to field.
Mick Chilcott pulled off a great run-out, diving to save and throwing down the stumps. Beaconsfield batted its way to 3/57 off 26 overs before Pakenham applied the pressure with several quick wickets.
Mick Chilcott had a second bowling spell during which he took a caught-and-bowled chance and a run-out to have Beaconsfield all out for 130.
Bowling highlights included D. Lane 3/5, Mick Chilcott 3/40 and two run outs and Chris Chilcott 2/27.
Pakenham batted for seven overs and finished the day at 0/6.

UNDER 16

Pakenham, only making 76 last week, made it hard for its bowlers.
Jack Ryan and Tim Holt opened the bowling and bowled tight to have Nar Nar Goon in some trouble at 2/27 after 13 overs, Tim Holt taking both wickets.
The runs then started to flow.
Flynn Visser came on and took a wicket and also made an excellent run-out.
Aaron Galloway bowled well and got himself a wicket, Huskie also chipped in for a wicket and C. Hart cleaned the tail up with three wickets.
Nar Nar Goon made 140.

UNDER 14

Pakenham showed that it is a team to beat in the finals with its second win in a row. B. Selby and D. Doyle got Pakenham off to a good start with both making double figures. R. Visser made 30 off five overs, B. Brice made a hard-fought 13 not out.

CLUB NOTES
