Mareska takes medal at Drouin Golf Club

DROUIN Golf Club’s Lloyd Mareska shot a fine 69 nett to win the monthly medal on Saturday.
There were 101 players who teed off in the medal round, sponsored by Roger Manson Panels.
Lloyd, on a handicap of 22, also took out C grade from Harry Pollard 74.
The Bgrade winner was Mark Smith (16) with a nett 70 from Shane Gorman 71.
George Shand and Jim Bransgrove were next on 72.
Consistent performer Fred Gajdobranski (eight) took out A grade with 71 nett on a countback from Goran Danilov.
Steven Bethune was next on 72 followed by Lea Caldwell and Dean Robbins on 73.
Nearest to pins – second: Laurie Harris, fifth: Shane Dwyer, 19th: Mark Wootton, 23rd (pro pin): Eric Robbins.
The CCR was 73 and balls down the line went to 73 on a countback.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

There were 95 players who contested the Stableford competition and it was a firedup Darryl Bryce (13) with 45 Stableford points who won A grade.
Runnerup was Fred Barton, 40, on a countback from Tony Elliot.
John Harris, Brad Bennett, Cameron Snell and Rod Hammond all returned with 39.
Regular visitor from Warragul, Jeff Mirams, took out B grade with 42 points.
Runnerup was Mike Mareska on a countback from George Shand.
Merv Swingler (27) from Trafalgar had a successful visit, blitzing the course on his way to winning C grade with 44 points.
Noel Brereton was runnerup with 41 points on a countback from Brian Curtis.
Ian Hemphill and Peter Anderson both had 40.
Nearest to pins – second: Fred Barton, 14th: Darryl Brain, 17th: Jim Bransgrove.
Balls went down to 35 on a countback and the CCR was 71.

THURSDAY RESULTS

The seniors’ ninehole competition attracted a good field of 43 players.
Di Baskett had an impressive 20 points to win the ladies’ section from Audrey Smethurst, Jill Brenchley, Heather Fitzpatrick, Anna Moffatt and Olive Reid, all on 18.
Graham Dorling and Les Madden tied on 21 points in the men’s. Bill Todd, Peter Browne, Lester Smethurst, Brian Kemp and Charlie Hardy all had 18.
MONDAY RESULTS

Max Johnson, Bruce Horskins and John Fusinato all returned with 20 points to share first place in the ninehole competition.
Ian Hemphill and Mick Devries were next on 19.

PRESIDENT’S TROPHY

This Saturday is the president’s trophy.
Special prizes as well as a free sausage sizzle and other activities will feature on the day. Entries are at the pro shop.

LADIES

Last Tuesday the members held their open guest day and 108 players contested a fourballbestball event on the centenary course.
President Bernace welcomed members, WGWG delegate Sheila McDowell, former member Marjie Milne.
She also welcomed visitors from Cranbourne, BerwickMontuna, Korumburra, Long Island, Wattle Park, Pakenham, Box Hill, Beacon Hills, Warragul, Mirboo North, Woorayl, Lakes Entrance, Garfield, Churchill Park, Morwell and Carrington Park.
The Agrade winners with 49 points were Louise Ford and Glenda Gorton (BerwickMontuna).
Runnersup with 45 points on a countback were Pam Pratt and Del Baker (Warragul).
Bgrade winners were Joan Johnson and Melva Risstrom (Warragul) with 46 points on a countback to runnersup Betsy White and Norma Scott.
Nearest the pin on the fifth was Shirley Roberts (Pakenham) and on the 14th was Robyn Dodge (Berwick/Montuna).
Downtheline balls went to Barbara Wirth and Dawn Campbell (Warragul) with 46 points, Nerida Hammond and Bernie Clark (Garfield), Margaret Murray and Olive Reid, Alison Smethurst and Betty Connors (Korumburra), Rhonda Knee and Bev Kitchin (Garfield) and Robyn O’Brien and Betty Ross (Cranbourne) all on 45 points.

THURSDAY RESULTS

The ninehole seniors’ competition was again well attended with the monthly barbecue after the game.
The winner was Di Baskett with 20 points and the runnersup were Jill Brenchley, Audrey Smethurst, Heather Fitzpatrick, Anna Moffatt and Olive Reid all on 18 points.

COMING EVENTS

This week is Stableford, sponsored by Vin Bibby Electrics, starting time 9.30am and next week, 11 April will be stroke, monthly medal, first round John Arnold Memorial Trophy and second round Mona McLeod Brooches.
