Marygoons start well in seniors

NAR Nar Goon-Maryknoll started strongly in senior fixtures on Saturday but still faced challenging targets on day two.

C GRADE

Nar Nar Goon sent Gembrook in and early wickets by Brian Webster and Mitch Abbott had the opposition reeling at 2/19, but Gembrook knuckled down and put on a 40-run partnership followed by a 90-run partnership, finishing all out for 222.
The best bowling figures were Abbott’s, 4/51 off 24 good overs. But the eight chances dropped by the Marygoons let the Brookers back into the match.

D GRADE

The Marygoons won the toss and decided to bowl at Kooweerup.
Col Hodson (3/35) and Sean Somers (1/51) bowled tightly but the first wicket didn’t fall until the 15th over, when the score was only 36.
Jason Campbell came on to take 4/37 from his 19-over spell.
Brad Bloxidge made his first run for the season and his big leg-breaks brought a welcome return of 2/32. Steve Pimm, in his first senior game, took a fine catch and fielded well.
Kooweerup finished all out 178.
The Marygoons saw off three overs from the Kooweerup attack and will resume 0/4.

UNDER 16

The Marygoons, playing PUT on day two, opened the bowling with Brent Hughes (1/12) and Chris Smith (1/7), who bowled well. But Austin Van Strijp (1/30) and Brodie Howe (3/17) were the pick of the bowlers. At drinks PUT was 1/55 and it came down to the 39th over before PUT passed the Goon’s 97.
