Mooneys shine for trophy

MICK and Steve Mooney with an excellent plus10 won the annual Robbins Family Trophy fourballbestball Par event at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.
They were closely followed by two pairs with plus9 – Peter Phillips and Alan Black, runnersup on a countback from Mick Lithgow and Adam Harris.
Better scores were John Paul Santo and Louie Uliando, plus8, Michael Sullivan and Neill Williams, plus8 and Goran Danilov and Fred Gajdobranski, also on plus8.
Nearest to pins – second: Steve Mooney, fifth (propin jackpot to this week), 14th: Tom Carroll and 17th: Goran Danilov.
During half time of the grand final, the presentations were held for day’s golf, as well as the drawing of the free membership raffle.
The winner of a year’s free membership is Peter Downward.
The Robbins family was thanked for its ongoing sponsorship of the popular event.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

In fine conditions 101 players teed off for the Stableford competition and with conditions still quite heavy from the recent rain it was the A graders that showed the way.
Rex Amey (10) had the highest score of the day with 42 points to win A grade from Matt Long (41) who shot a 67 off the stick.
Harvey Smith, Peter Collins and Alan Manley all had 40 points.
In B grade, Doug Scott (17) got his just reward for all those hours spent on the practise fairway, winning with 39 points from Danny LaFrantz and Peter Phillips both on 36.
C grade was a close contest with Tex Devlin (20) on the right end of a threeway countback.
Tex had 35 points, as did runnerup Bill Burrows and Wayne Duckett.

THURSDAY RESULTS

There were 45 players for the seniors’ ninehole competition and Audrey Smethurst was the clear winner of the ladies section with 19 points.
Jill Brenchley had 17, Shirley Todd 16 and Teresa Kren 16.
In the men’s section, Joe Coggins led the way with 20 points from nine others who all had 17.
This Saturday is the Steve Thomson Bricklaying October monthly medal.

LADIES

On Tuesday last week, 23 Drouin golfers donned their wetweather gear, opened their umbrellas and contested a Stableford event sponsored by Jill Dixon and Leeanne Planck. The CCR was 73 points.
President Bernace welcomed back Pat Betheras and Chris Hansen. Chris is looking forward to a game before returning to Yeppoon in the near future.
Only 16 stalwarts finished the 18 holes, while the rest, quite sensibly just played nine holes, retiring to the clubhouse.
The winner was Maureen Withers with 32 points and the runnerup was Lyn Pinner with 31 points.
Nearest the pin on the 14th was Lynette Thaw and Margaret Purcell won the propin.
Ethel Manley won the ninehole competition.
A good field turned up for the Thursday ninehole seniors competition.
The winner was Audrey Smethurst with 19 points and the runnersup were Jill Brenchley 17 points, Shirley Todd 16 points, Teresa Kren 16 points and Ethel Manley 15 points.
This week is Stableford sponsored by Heather Fitzpatrick and next week will be stroke, the monthly medal and fourth round of the John Arnold Memorial Trophy.
