PAKENHAM Police are urging people to plan parties well to avoid them having to be called in to sort out problems.
Cardinia Inspector Chris Norton urged hosts to limit numbers and not issue open invitations. “Having hundreds of people turn up to a party can be a recipe for disaster,” he said.
Insp Norton said police were still being called to parties where groups of intoxicated partygoers loitered in the area well after the event was finished.
He said transport plans needed to be put in place to avoid intoxicated people walking home.
“Vandalism and thefts often occur after parties finish,” he said.
“People in rural area, particularly, need to plan to ensure guest have a way of getting home,” Insp Norton said.
He said police recommended ensuring that a security presence was in place for parties, particularly those when people under 18 attended.
Hosts are encouraged to register the party with Partysafe at their local police station. When registering, hosts are given an information pack that contains tips for running a safe event.
