A blue on the green

By Callan Date
A LEISURELY game of golf turned into a blue on the green at a district golf club last weekend.
Police said the unlawful assault occurred at the Beaconhills Country Golf Club between 2.30pm and 3pm last Saturday, when a group of players were unhappy with the colourful language coming from another group on a separate hole of the course and saw red.
One person from the offended group took matters into his own hands by approaching the vocal golfers and punching one of the players in the face.
The action took place on the eighth hole, which is more known for its pars than punchons, of the prestigious Upper Beaconsfield course.
The victim, a 24yearold from Narre Warren, suffered cuts to his lip as well as bumps and bruises to his face from the assault.
Golf club manager Danie Myers said the fight was a rare incident at the club.
She said the club definitely did not endorse that kind of behaviour.
“In my time here (three years) I have never heard of anything like this happening before,” Ms Myers said.
She said those involved in the fight were not members of the club and were casual green fee players.
“The matter has been handled by the players and the police, and the club has had nothing to do with it,” she said.
Anyone who may have seen the assault is asked to contact Pakenham Police on 5941 1033.
