Boost for landcare

LANDCARE projects in the area have won State Government funding support.
Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato last week announced a range of grants for projects in the electorate.
The funding would enable the groups to undertake a range of vital landcare activities such as weed control and tree planting, she said.
“Local landcare groups play a vital role in managing our natural resources and in assisting landowners to rehabilitate their land holdings,” she said.
“I am thrilled that these grants will translate into major improvements in native vegetation plantings.”
The John Hills Landcare Group has been funded $13,370 for a number of projects such as planting on private land, fencing and revegetation along Cardinia Creek, and restoration of bush land adjoining the Puffing Bill train tracks.
Bessie Creek/Ararat Creek Landcare Group is set to receive $8300 for its “Greening the Goon’ project while Toomuc Landcare will be able to undertake further planting with a grant of $4975.
Cardinia Hills Ragwort and Landcare Group ($2670), Cannibal Creek Landcare Group ($800), Cardinia Environment Coalition ($800), Cardinia Catchment Landcare Group ($300), and Deep Creek Landcare Group ($800) have also been successful in receiving grants.
