Dust raises sealing plan

EDRINGTON Ward councillor Mick Morland wants Casey council to seal the Berwick Bowling Club car park.
Cr Morland successfully asked the council during the Tuesday, 4 April meeting that it work with the club to establish the cost of the works.
He asked that the amount be referred to the next council budget.
“The facility is worth $2 million and is one of Casey’s jewels but still has a gravel car park.
“People have been complaining about dust from this council owned facility.
“The work needs to be costed and included in the budget,” Cr Morland said.
Cr Morland said the bowling club had already invested $1 million on the site.
“This is a major asset with a second rate car park,” he said.
Four Oaks Ward councillor Paul Richardson asked what the cost would be?
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said Cr Morland’s request for a report was to find out what was involved.
Balla Balla Ward councillor Colin Butler said also that the report should indicate where the work would be placed on the priority list.
Edrington Ward councillor Brian Hetherton asked that the report investigate the possibility of obtaining Sate and Federal Government funding to help pay for the work.
The club has written to other councillors seeking their support for the work.
Board chairman Barry Fisher said in the letter the club was a premier venue for lawn bowls in the southeast but faced an obstacle in attracting major events because of the unsealed car park.
“The quality of our new synthetic green is also being affected by dust from the car park being impregnated into the playing surface.
“We have received complaints from those hiring the clubhouse for functions about the dusty and muddy condition of the parking area.
“Our club has made a commitment to embrace the whole community.
“We have hosted visits from several schools with more than 600 students participating in our great game.
“The club has 360 members and the facilities are used almost every day.
“We maintain an excellent facility through a strong volunteer workforce,” Mr Fisher said.
