PEOPLE aged 65 years or older are eligible to receive free flu and pneumococcal vaccines.
LaTrobe MP Jason Wood said the Federal Government would continue to help protect older Australians from the flu and pneumococcal disease by providing free vaccines this year.
Mr Wood said older people were more vulnerable to pneumococcal disease and influenza.
“These diseases, which can lead to pneumonia and other serious illnesses, are most prevalent in winter and can be fatal in older Australians.
“A prescription is not needed to get these vaccines. Older Australians simply need to visit their doctor or immunisation provider and ask for a free vaccination.
“It is important that older Australians get both vaccines so they are properly protected against both diseases,” Mr Wood said.
