SIX drink drivers were detected during the Operation Filter, conducted by the Cardinia Traffic Management Unit (TMU) over the past three months.
Officer in charge of Cardinia TMU Sergeant Peter Garton said the Traffic Accident Commissionfunded operation, which targeted drivers who travelled on back roads to avoid random breath tests, finished on Sunday. Police said the final detection of the operation occurred on Saturday night near Labertouche when a man was detected driving with a blood alcohol reading of .093. His licence was suspended for six months and he was fined $366.
Sgt Garton said 1169 random breath tests were carried out, along with 173 tests at mobile intercepts during the operation.
“The low number of detections is good, it means the message is getting out there,” he said. The operation was carried out on two nights of each week between Thursday and Saturday, usually between 11pm and 2am. Sgt Garton said a lowkey operation targeting drink driving would continue across the shire.
