Residents pleased with road signs fix

A ROAD dubbed a potential killer has had a safety fix that residents say has answered their prayers.
State MP Tammy Lobato last week said extra signs had been installed along Gembrook Road in Pakenham Upper to address concerns about visibility of vehicles using the winding road.
“These road improvements will make a dramatic difference to the safety of the road,” Ms Lobato said.
The move comes after the Gazette highlighted efforts by Katrina and Bill Roob and neighbours to improve safety in the area.
The calls followed a collision involving a motorcyclist and a truck.
Ms Lobato said she had asked VicRoads to assess sections of the road.
She said Mrs Roob, with help from the Cardinia Residents and Ratepayers Association, had approached her with concerns about the difficulty she experienced in being seen by oncoming vehicles when exiting the driveway of her property, near Clink Road.
“VicRoads have now completed their investigation and determined that concealed driveway signs are warranted at this location, both north and south of the driveway,” she said.
“It is anticipated that these signs will be fully installed by the end of June 2006, as part of the ongoing works to improve the safety of Gembrook Road.
“This $96,000 project includes speed and curve advisory signs, curve alignment markers, guideposts and six kilometres of edge lining.”
Mrs Roob said she was delighted that the works had happened so quickly.
“It is absolutely wonderful. I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
