Saluting twenty years of wishes

THANKS to the CardiniaCasey branch of the MakeAWish Foundation, the dreams of almost 150 children have come true.
CardiniaCasey fundraising coordinator Carol Porter said the MakeAWish Foundation was celebrating 20 years in Australia.
Mrs Porter said the local group had been able to make a real difference in the lives of 6000 children and their families over two decades.
She said the generosity of people and businesses with their time, money and expertise in running events and attending fundraisers was overwhelming.
“From all our volunteers we say a big thank you,” Mrs Porter said.
“Without their support we could not raise the funds to grant the cherished wishes of our beautiful children.
“Some of the children wish to meet celebrities, visit the Gold Coast and the theme parks, own a little puppy, a laptop computer or a cubby or spa,” Mrs Porter said.
“The joy on their faces when their wishes are granted is the best thank you a MakeAWish volunteer can receive.”
Mrs Porter said the group planned several fundraising events to complete a successful year.
“We cater for a horse show in Tonimbuk in November, our Christmas stocking/wheelbarrow raffle will again be down the street in early December.
“On Saturday 12 November, in the Nar Nar Goon Community Centre, the Dead Set Legends will star Mark Andrew who has an exceptional ability to take his audience back to the ’50s with his impersonations of Elvis, Dean Martin, Austin Powers and Buddy Holly.”
Mrs Porter said the MakeAWish Foundation had published a beautiful book that captures the heartwarming stories of 100 families whose children have received wishes.
Some of CardiniaCasey wish families are featured in the book, which can be ordered for $19.95 on 1800 032 260.
