Season off to ordinary start

GARFIELD Bowls Club’s Division 2 team lost by three shots overall to Morwell Club in a tight match after the lead changed regularly during the game.
Scores were: Gary Payne, Peter Gallasch, Shane Oliver and Bob Lamport defeated M Kerr’s team 23 to 22. Les Pumphrey, Hank Wouters, Colin Carmichael and Frank Frins defeated Peter Jonas’ team 24 to 17.
Colin Mills, Reg Mattingley, Geoff Gaskell and Don Knight lost to Jim Bannister’s team 23 to 28. Stephen Whyte, Stu Robertson, Wayne Gunton and Matthew Smith lost to S Glossop 16 to 27.
Division 62 had a bad day losing to Warragul 4 by 41 shots.
Scores were; Alex Mentiplay, Les Shatwell, John Rose and Wes Goodman lost to J Goodridge 12 to 29. Bob Hope, Laurence Wright, Tom Cleary and Bill Doherty lost to D Grogan 36 to 12.
Division 63 had the tightest win possible with both rinks winning by a single shot to finish 2up for the day against Longwarry.
Scores were: Lyn Oliver, Pat Marriott, Keith Sainsbery and Bill Pearson defeated B Naylor 26 to 25. Gordon Beer, Bill Charles, Barrie Smith and Adrian Helmuth defeated P. Hengel 21 to 20.
