THE hardest part about the Survivors’ Walk at The Cancer Council Victoria’s Relay For Life is qualifying.
This doesn’t mean the race is tough, but it’s tough getting there.
After facing what may be the biggest test of their lives in battling cancer, survivors will be recognised for their strength and courage during the opening lap of The Cancer Council Victoria’s Relay For Life for Casey Cardinia.
All cancer survivors are welcome to take part, whether they are a member of a Relay For Life team or not.
They will wear a red sash during the lap of honour as Relay participants cheer them on.
Casey Cardinia committee cochairmanager Deborah Ditchburn said the Survivors’ Walk was a great way to unite the many in the community who had survived a cancer diagnosis.
“The Survivors’ Walk is open to people who have battled cancer and are now cancerfree, as well as those currently undergoing treatment,” Mrs Ditchburn said.
Mrs Ditchburn said carers were also welcome to take part in the opening lap in recognition of the important role they played.
A moving candlelight ceremony will also be held at 9pm. The walk is part of the opening ceremony at 5.45pm. Casey Cardinia’s Relay For Life will be held at Akoonah Park, Princes Highway, Berwick at 6pm on Friday 2 March and conclude at 6pm Saturday 3 March.
