Team on track for trophy

THE team of Peter Bethune and Nick Rowe shot a superb 47 Stableford points to win the day event and lead the first round of the fourballbestball Stroud Trophy at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.
There were 57 pairs in the field for the trophy, an annual memorial event named after former life member, the late Jack Stroud.
Darryl and Jason Brain were the runnersup after combining well for 46 points.
Noel Brereton and Mike Waring also scored 46, along with Les Madden and Phil Edwards.
With several visitors from Garfield in the field, a visitor’s trophy was on offer and that went to the team of Ian McMillan and Nigel Goldsworthy with an excellent 47 points.
Downtheline balls went down to all teams on 45 points.
Nearest to pins – second: Kevin O’Brien, 14th: Noel Brereton and 17th: Trevor Franklin.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

The Par competition was supported by 88 players and Noel Brereton (handicap 22) capped of a great week with +5 to win the Cgrade trophy.
David Elder was runnerup in C grade with +4, followed by Henk Otterspoor on +2 and Ross Lang square.
Lindsay Robinson (handicap 16) was the winner of B grade with square from four players on 1. They were Jeff Mirams, who was runnerup on a countback from Anthony Appleby, Mike Roberts and Mike Waring.
Darryl Bryce (handicap 10) continued his recent good form to win A grade with +2.
Runner up on a countback with square was Peter Devries from Brad Bennett and Ivan Moffatt.
Nearest to pins – second: Bill Pyle, fifth (pro pin): Graham Austin, 14th: Jack Gardiner.
Balls went down to 1 on a countback and the CCR was 72.

THURSDAY RESULTS

Bruce Horskins was the winner of the seniors’ event with 19 points from Lester Smethurst 18 and Charlie Hardy 17.

COMING EVENTS

This Saturday is a fourballbestball Stableford event and the final round of the Stroud Trophy.

LADIES

Last Tuesday, the ladies contested the second round of the club championships, the second round of the Edna Cropley Trophy and the final round of the Silver Spoon. The CCR was 76 nett.
The winner of silver division was Shirley Todd with 76 nett on a countback to runnerup Leeanne Clanek, also on 76 nett.
Bronzeone winner, with a score of 75 nett, was Bev Goodwin. Bev also won the Silver Spoon. The runnerup was Ethel Manley with 77 nett.
Bronzetwo winner was Poss Leeson with 79 nett and the runnerup was Val Johnson with 80 nett.
Nearest the pin on the 14th was Di Sullivan and on the 19th was Pam Pratt. The Propin was won by Dianne Howlett.
Downtheline balls went to Jill Brenchley, 77 nett, Mary Tymensen, Margaret Purcell and Robyn O’Brien, all on 78 nett.

COMING EVENTS

This week is again stroke and the final round of the club championships and Edna Cropley Trophy.
Next week (27 June) will be threeballbestball Stableford in conjunction with the Peugeot Classic threeballbestball Stableford qualifying round.
