Works double power capacity

SP AusNet has announced that its multimillion dollar Clyde North Substation will be finished later this month.
SP AusNet communications manager Louisa Graham said the new plant would improve the reliability of electricity supply to thousands of customers in the Berwick, Clyde North, Cranbourne, Devon Meadows, Five Ways, Junction Village and Tooradin areas.
More than 12,000 customers would benefit from the major capital works program, she said.
“We need to ensure our infrastructure has the capacity to meet increased demand for electricity and provide customers with energy reliably and safely well into the future,” she said.
“Current projects will also help protect against unplanned power outages and will provide the capacity to minimise the impact on the community when they do occur. We’re spending $3 million on doubling the capacity of Clyde North substation by adding a transformer and reconfiguring the network to allow greater flexibility to deliver energy and also isolate customers when power is unexpectedly interrupted.”
Ms Graham said the company had also started work at Clyde North on a $600,000 project that involved new fusing and switches to high voltage infrastructure.
“These measures will spread the customer load in a more balanced and even way across the network, so if power is cut to one part of the network, fewer customers will suffer a supply interruption as a result as we’ll be able to isolate the problem area.
“We have a commitment to our customers to provide reliable supply of energy and these significant infrastructure improvements will ensure we can continue to do so today and well into the future.”
