BRAD Hamill shot hot to win the Canon Challenge at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday
Played over two weeks, Brad won with a combined total of 78 points.
The challenge was sponsored by Matt Bradshaw and a field of 109 teed off on the final day.
The day event, with a CCR of 71, was won in A grade by club icon Shane Dwyer with 40 points on a countback from Leon Cook.
The B-grade winner was Danny Burke with 40 points with the fast improving junior Joel Backman on 39 points.
The C-grade section saw Tom Piner win his first trophy with a huge 46 points while Geoff Thomas was runner-up on a countback from Henk Oherspoor on 40 points.
Nearest the pins were Kevin O’Brien second, Mick Lithgow fifth and Leon Cook won the pro pin.
Nine ladies played with Mary Clark the best with 40 points.
CITY V COUNTRY
Sunday was the annual challenge of the city versus country members with a field of 20 pairs in four-ball-better-ball event.
After much conjecture city was declared the winners with total of 422 Stableford points to country 413 points.
Individual winners were Peter Lockwood and Gavin Stern both ‘bushranger’ guests of Vin Bibby with 51 points from the father-and-son combination of Alan and James Black on 47 points.
Other good scores were Wayne Robbins and Graeme Brenchley with 46 points and Joanne and Russell Readon on 45 points.
Judy Bibby was thanked for the catering and Anthony Bambridge for the conduct of the event.
BLIND GOLFERS VISIT
Next Sunday the club will again host the Victorian Blind Golfers Association.
Players are needed to accompany the blind players around the course and those available can put their names on the list on the noticeboard.
CLUB STRATEGY MEETING
Wednesday, 30 November at 7pm is described as a very important night and members are urged to attend to take in this vital strategy outline for the future of the Drouin Golf and Country Club.
WEDNESDAY RESULTS
There were 101 starters in the Stableford event.
A grade was won by Phil Adams with a score of 41 points, followed by Pat McDonald (who eagled the 26th) and Michael Santo, both on 40 points.
B grade went to the evergreen Joe Coggins with 43 points on a countback from John Wolswinkel with Terry Best next with 40 points.
Peter Walsh, a regular Warragul visitor, amassed a great 47 point to take out the C-grade section with Jeff Reid the runner-up on 43 points.
Nearest the pins were Michael Santo (fifth) and Mick Whitford the pro-pin on the 23rd.
THURSDAY RESULTS
The over-50’s event saw Joe Coggins once again in the winners’ circle with 21 points followed by Colin Moss on 20 points.
The ladies had Jenny Snape as the winner with a great 22 points with Robyn O’Brien, Irene Morgan, Val Johnson and Betsy White all on 20 points.
LADIES
Last Tuesday, the Drouin women golfers played a stroke event, sponsored by L’Oreal. The CCR was 76.
President Bernace welcomed members with a special welcome to Betty Dillon from Jamberoo.
A-grade winner was Shirley Todd with 75 nett and the runner-up was Di Sullivan with 76 nett on a countback to Margaret Purcell.
B-grade winner was Jenny Snape with a great score of 69 nett.
The runner-up was Glenda Warren with 74 nett. Jenny has broken her handicap to 29 and Glenda has broken her handicap to 28.
Nearest the pin on the fifth was Pam Pratt and no one claimed it on the 19th. The pro-pin will jackpot to this week.
Down-the-line balls went to Margaret Purcell 76 nett and Karen Adams, Betsy White and Betty Dillon all on 77 nett.
MONTHLY MEDAL
The play off for the October monthly medal was between Poss Leeson and Ruth Waring with Ruth winning with a score of 80 nett.
STAR MEDAL
The play-off for the Star medal between Margaret Ileslin, Betsy White, Irene Morgan, Audrey Sme-thurst, Mary Tymensen, Julie Robertson, Margaret Purcell and Ruth Waring was won by Margaret Purcell.
Jill Greenland was thanked for her sponsorship of the event.
THURSDAY RESULTS
Jenny Snape won the nine-hole seniors’ competition with 22 points.
Runners-up were Robyn O’Brien, Irene Morgan, Val Johnson and Betsy White all with 20 points.
COMING EVENTS
This week is stroke, sponsored by Laurie and Virginia Pyle with 16 to qualify for match play championships.
Next week will be Stableford, the first round of the Downtowner Summer competition.
After the New Year, to be sure of a partner in the summer competition members can arrive at 8am otherwise they can arrange a group and a time to suit themselves.
