POLICE have repeatedly asked people not to ring the triple zero emergency number unless there is an emergency.
I have heard repeated calls from radio stations asking listeners not to ring 000 because of the smoke haze, but they still do.
Police have again asked residents to lay off because the number was flooded with calls from people living right across Victoria concerned with the level of smoke.
The number should only be called to report actual fires or other incidents where urgent police or emergency service attendance is required.
Information about the fires is available from the Victorian Bushfire Information service on 1800 240 667 and not 000.
