Competition rife

AT THE Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, last Wednesday’s fat cattle market saw 731 cattle, and Thursday’s cow and bull sale saw 398 cows, and 23 bulls.
The Wednesday fat cattle sale saw prices again rise compared to previous weeks with vealers reaching 250.2 cents per kilogram.
A good quality yarding saw all categories of cattle lift for the vendors and with 65 buyers present, competition was rife. Restockers and feedlotters were well catered for with some very good pen lots on offer.
Heifers reached 230.6 cents for an average of 182.8 cents for 109 head, steers made to 230.2 cents and averaged 187.4 cents for 304 head and vealers averaged 210.8 cents per kilogram for the 731 head yarded the average was 194.5 cents or $743 per head.
Thursday also saw prices lift as buyers competed for 398 cows and 23 bulls.
This saw bulls make to 197.2 and average 173.9 cents and 166 cents for weighed cattle with unweighed cattle making to $950.
The 421 head averaged $690 per head or 148.5 cents per kilogram.
