Council bids for liquor licence accord

THE City of Casey wants to establish a liquor licence accord.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said the accord would provide an opportunity for the City, Victoria Police and hospitality industry representatives to work towards responsible alcohol practice.
He said it would also highlight the consequences of misuse or abuse of alcohol.
The Casey Alcohol Working Group will develop the accord to help deliver a united approach in addressing issues surrounding alcohol misuse.
The mayor said it was important that a range of community, hospitality and business representatives joined the City of Casey and police in this important project.
“Through strong partnerships and shared knowledge, instances of harm related to the misuse of drugs and alcohol can be reduced or prevented,” he said.
Cr Bradford said many licensed venues in Casey already worked with the council, the police and community to promote responsible social behaviour at their venues.
“The accord would formalise this positive approach.
“This accord will complement initiatives already under way in Casey, such as the popular party safe project, in which residents register their proposed party or celebration with police and receive an information pack,” Cr Bradford said.
