CASEY Council was last night (Tuesday) expected to approve a planning permit for a new car dealership at 1824 Clyde Road, Berwick, in the Boys from Berwick car yard area.
A planning officer report before the council planning committee meeting said the property would be developed as a Chrysler dealership and motor vehicle repairs facility.
The report said a building would be placed toward the middle of the site parallel to Clyde Road, but set back to accommodate the expected widening of Clyde Road.
“An external car display will be situated along the part facing Clyde Road and part of Mansfield Street,” the report said.
“Vehicle loading and unloading will not occur on site, but at the company’s Enterprise Avenue property.
“Cars will be driven back to the Clyde Road premises.”
The report said a 2.4high acoustic paling fence would be erected along the rear of the premises to protect residential properties.
Access is proposed from Clyde Road and Mansfield Street.
Officers said two objections to the application were received on the grounds the business would impact on property values and would create noise and light spill.
Objectors also said the business was not consistent with the village character, that no buffer was allowed and failure to provide a washing bay would result in water affecting surrounding properties.
However, the report said no washing facility would be permitted on site.
