NEW footpaths will be installed in towns around Cardinia Shire under a $304,000 bid to improve walkways for pedestrians.
Council at its meeting on Monday voted to accept the tender submitted by contractor Jasper Concreting Pty Ltd for works that will begin in October and continue until April, 2007.
Seven firms submitted tenders, with the Jasper bid considered the most “advantageous” to council.
A report to council’s meeting said the works would provide a number of new concrete footpaths throughout the shire.
“Many of these paths provide links to existing paths and will benefit the community through improved access to townships,” the report said.
Council set aside a total $900,000 for footpath works in the 200607 budget. The works form the concrete part of the overall program which also includes asphalt and gravel paths.
