Marygoons compile good scores

THE Nar Nar Goon-Maryknoll batting performed well at the weekend, winning two junior matches onm first innings and setting Cardinia a target in A grade.

A GRADE

Playing at Cardinia, the Goon won the toss for the first time in around eight games and elected to bat.
Opener Matt Lownds and Bob Simpson got a good start, the Goon losing the first wicket at 20 then Wade Crawford came to the crease and batted well.
At the first drinks break the Goon was 1/47, but lost the second wicket straight afterwards. At tea the Goon was 2/84.
After tea Crawford (42) and Craig Lewis started to see the ball quite well. At 4/150 Lewis went after a chanceless 60. Neil Rankin (27) batted well with Adam Cooper, who made 15. Paul Govaars made 18 after hitting a huge six over mid-wicket.
After 80 overs, the Goon had made a respectable 232.

UNDER 16

Playing at Pakenham after bowling out the Lions for 76, the Goon opened with Austin Van Strijp and Evan Bramley.
Bramley was the first to go for three with the score on 19, Chris Smith and Van Strijp passed the score, Smith getting 30 and Jake Sweeney 19. Austin Van Strijp made a good 57 and the total reached 140.

UNDER 14

The Marygoons, chasing 70 against PUT, batted well, passing the Yabbies without losing a wicket.
Steven Pimm and Xavier Manson opened and batted with control, pushing the singles and putting pressure on the field.
Manson (30 retired) then opened the shoulders and started to hit the bowlers around while Pimm (29) kept control.
Nick Bransgrove made a quick 18 not out and the Marygoons batted out the overs, making 4/118.
