Money goes to victims

AT the 11 November meeting of the Berwick/Upper Beaconsfield Red Cross Unit, chairman Helen Fyfe led members in a minute’s silence for Australians who fought and died in wars.
Members unanimously agreed to send $650 from a recent fundraising event to the Red Cross appeal, to help victims of the Pakistan/Kashmir earthquake.
The Unit is selling tickets for a Christmas raffle, with a first prize of beautiful pearl jewellery donated by Batavia pearls.
The winning ticket will be drawn on Friday, 9 December, at the Unit’s Christmas lunch at the Pine Grove Hotel, Upper Beaconsfield.
Australian Red Cross Christmas cards, calendars and diaries are on sale at the Berwick Mechanics Institute library.
Used stamps can be left at the library at any time during the year by simply tearing from envelope and leaving at least one centimetre around the stamp.
The Unit encourages businesses receiving mail with postage stamps, to donate them to Red Cross.
The annual Australian Red Cross door knock will be held next year from mid-February to mid-March, because of the Commonwealth Games.
The area to cover is growing rapidly and many new volunteer callers are needed, particularly for the new estates.
The first meeting of the Casey Red Cross Calling committee will be held on Thursday, 8 December, at the City of Casey – Room 7.
Anyone willing to spare a few hours to help Red Cross can contact Norma McCausland on 9707 1576 or, in the Upper Beaconsfield area, Barbara Jackson on 5944 3554.
