Pakenham gets a glimpse of $1m star

INTERNATIONAL jumping sensation Karasi will parade for spectators at the inaugural Super Jumps Race Day at Pakenham Racecourse this Sunday.
Trained by Officer celebrity Eric Musgrove, Karasi produced a faultless run at the Nakayama Grand Jump in Japan this year and collected $1 million for the win.
Musgrove will be speaking at a luncheon on Sunday and will give racegoers an insight into training winners such as Karasi. But perhaps more importantly for punters, Musgrove will be providing expert tips.
With a number of runners in the eightrace card, Musgrove said the day would feature terrific racing.
“Laststart Sandown winner Conzeal will be racing at Pakenham,” Musgrove confirmed.
Conzeal raced on 31 August over 3000 metres at Sandown. Storming home to beat favourite Classic Benbara, Conzeal returned a $4 dividend to punters.
Conzeal has been placed six times from its past eight starts, including two wins, and may just be Musgrove’s tip of the day.
But Musgrove said he would keep his eyes peeled and do his best to help punters.
“I hope I’ll be able to tip a few winners for the locals,” Musgrove laughed.
Musgrove said his Fernwood Park training facility in Officer was producing pleasing results in the new racing season.
“The stable is going well, we’re enjoying winners here and there.
“We’re coming off a great season and things are looking good,” Musgrove said.
Musgrove said the Super Jumps Race Day was a great idea and brought benefits for all involved.
“For the trainers, all the horses are set for the one day, rather than racing here and there.
“And for spectators, the quality of racing in unparalleled,” Musgrove said.
The idea of the oneday super card is still in its infancy, but Musgrove said from what he had seen, it has been successful.
“It’s proving to be a very popular idea, let’s hope it continues,” he said.
According to Musgrove the health of the jumping industry is better than ever.
“After a few chances to fencing regulations, more money is being injected and the stakes are increasing.
“It’s headed in the right direction,” Musgrove said.
Other guest speakers include trainer Brett Scott and owner Pearse Morgan.
To attend the 12.30 pm luncheon, racegoers can phone Ian Rough, phone 5962 1775 or Russell Dunn, phone 0417 542 949.
