Parks get new trails plan

BUNYIP State Park is set for a muchneeded recreation framework as part of a State Government initiative to improve recreational opportunities.
The framework aims to reduce disturbance in the park and covers Bunyip State Park and the nearby Kurth Kiln Park and Crossover Regional Park, Tarago Regional Park and Bunyip State Forest.
The member for Gembrook Tammy Lobato said the framework would designate motorbike and 4WD activity areas further north in the park, while 4WDs would be permitted to use tracks in the south for special events.
“Local residents together with visitors to the park welcome this announcement that will result in a major reduction in disturbance of the peaceful amenity of the park,” she said.
She stressed that the new framework would ensure the safety and enjoyment of passive recreation visitors.
“The Bunyip State Park is popular and serves the regional recreational needs of eastern and southeastern Melbourne.
“It has an extensive network of roads and tracks that can provide good experiences for horseriding and walking, as well as occasional trailbike riding and fourwheeldriving,” she said.
Member for Narracan Ian Maxfield thanked the community advisory group for their efforts over the past two years in contributing to getting the framework approved.
“Key user groups including walkers, horseriders, trailbike riders, fourwheeldrivers, residents and environmentalists all contributed to this successful new framework.
“Its implementation will reduce the impact of trail bike noise and allow four wheel driving and trail bike riding in the north of Bunyip State Park and most of the state forest,” he said.
