Some drivers ‘won’t learn’

DRINK drinkers are failing to heed warnings about the danger of getting behind the wheel.
Police spoke out this week over concerns that some motorists continued to ignore their repeated messages that alcohol and cars should not be mixed.
The police warning came after eight people were caught drink driving in a fourday period last week.
Pakenham Police Senior Sergeant Alan McCarthy said the results of police breath test operations were extremely disappointing. “We are very concerned the message isn’t getting through,” Sen Sgt McCarthy said.
A 21yearold Safety Beach man had his licence suspended after he recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.155 per cent — more than three times the legal limit — when pulled over at Beaconsfield on Friday night. On Thursday, 1 March, a 56yearold man had his Harley Davidson motorcycle seized under new antihoon laws. Police said the man was unlicensed and had committed other traffic offences.
He also recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.026.
Sen Sgt McCarthy said it was unfortunate that some residents did not appear willing to take on board constant police warnings about the risks of drinkdriving.
“The message does not appear to be getting through to some members of the public that drink drivers risk not only their lives but the lives of passengers and every other member of the public,” he said.
“Losing their licence or other penalties are the lesser of the consequences compared to killing a loved one or an innocent person. We again urge all residents not to drink and drive.”
