Speakers to hit the mark

CARDINIA’S warm-up event for the Commonwealth Games will have a professional touch, with two elite athletes as guest speakers.
Residents will get the chance to meet and ask questions of athletes Eloise Southby-Halbish and Chris Ciriello at the event at the Cardinia Cultural Centre in Pakenham on Sunday.
Netballer Eloise is a Manchester 2000 Commonwealth Games gold medallist and the star goal shooter for the Melbourne Phoenix. She played in the 2004 NNL Grand Final, and won the Commonwealth Bank trophy in 2000.
Chris Ciriello is an under-21 Australian hockey player, who won a silver medal with the 2005 junior World Cup team. He has been named in the Commonwealth Games squad.
The athletes will appear at the Cardinia Converge event, which will see people from all Cardinia’s townships ‘converge’ at Cardinia Cultural Centre, Lakeside Drive Pakenham for a day of free, Games-themed fun from 10am onwards.
Activities include a mini pistol range, kids’ field games, shot put and javelin and mini sprints, lawn bowls/carpet bowls, table tennis, basketball, netball, group exercise session, ‘township walk around the lake’ competition and a healthy eating/nutrition talk.
