CARDINIA and Casey Councils have joined a Melbournewide push on critical transport and tourism issues.
The local municipalities are among more than 30 councils that have pledged to lobby state and federal governments on a number of issues. These include expansion of the metropolitan railway system and a push for eastwest rail and freight links. They will also ask the governments to give priority to road and rail freight access to the Port of Melbourne and interstate rail lines. The councils will also push for an increase of incoming flights to Melbourne and the freeing up of air rights for new foreign carriers to keep pace with increasing tourist demand.
