INACCURACY was costly to Emerald on Saturday when the Bombers were beaten by a determined Powelltown.
The senior side played at Emerald in perfect playing conditions but found it difficult to shoot straight. Emerald had the majority of the play, doubling the opposition’s scoring attempts, but still went to the first break a point down.
In the second quarter a strong Powelltown came out and outplayed Emerald, converting eight goals to Emerald’s three. This set Emerald a difficult task going at the major break.
In the third quarter Emerald kicked 3.5 to Powelltown’s 2.1. The last quarter was again controlled by Emerald’s strong back line, while the forwards outscored Powelltown for the quarter. But the deficit opened in the second quarter cost Emerald the game.

Emerald was slow to start but managed to keep up with an enthusiastic Powelltown. Both sides managed to score 4.3 in a great start. In the second quarter Emerald defended much better and kicked goals when the opportunities arrived. The ball was continually cleared and driven forward, allowing the forwards to capitalise. Emerald managed to score 7.0, keeping Powelltown to 0.2.
The third and fourth quarters became a parade, Emerald scoring at will and running out easy victors in a good preparation for the finals.

UNDER 18

In the first quarter against WarburtonMillgrove Emerald matched its opponent at every contest around the ground, kicking two goals to one.
The second quarter again was fiercely contested and each side managed a goal each, leaving the Emerald a goal ahead at the major break.
In the third quarter the sides again matched each other around the ground and in a lowscoring game the tension was constant and neither side was prepared to give up.
In the final quarter Warburton took advantage of a couple of lucky breaks and was able to kick a couple more goals in the dying minutes. Emerald was beaten in a closely contested game.
