TWO Baw Baw Bulls sides reached the finals but an unexpected result saw the senior men’s side out of the finals and the men’s thirds side finished fifth.
MEN’S STATE
LEAGUE 4
The senior Bulls finished their season with a clear win over Ajax. The team played great hockey, three of the goals being skilfully scored with the back of Ken Farmer’s stick. Junior players Joseph Sutton and Daniel Mackinnon played with strength and determination, running strongly, marking their players and constantly making good position.
The Bulls were unlucky not to have a shot at the finals, but a forfeit by the top team Blazers to Casey in the secondlast round gave Casey unexpected points and a finals guernsey instead of Baw Baw.
Scores: Baw Baw 6 d Ajax 1.
MEN’S PENNANT E
The last match of the season for the men’s thirds was exciting and it was only with a penalty corner, played out after the final whistle, that thirdplaced Altona managed to find the net to equalise. Junior Matt Goetz finished a great season in the senior men’s team. It was a terrific close to the inaugural year for the Pennant Es, whose place on the ladder doesn’t reflect the skills of the team.
Scores: Baw Baw 3 drew with Altona 3.

Baw Baw played the final match for the season at the State Hockey Centre against Goulburn Valley. The first half was hard fought, both sides attacking repeatedly. James Dobson opened the scoring with a goal for Baw Baw. Goulburn Valley replied with a goal before halftime. In the second half Joe Sutton scored two goals. In the final minutes, Dobson lined up his second goal but instead of the ball hitting the back of the goal it connected with the goalie’s helmet, leaving the dazed goalie with a large lump on his forehead. The team and supporters then had a Breakup in Lygon Street.
