THE Berwick youth girls football team started the season on a high note on Saturday when they defeated last season’s premier Sacre Coeur College.
The club had recruited well during the off season and the players were keen to gauge their skills against the league’s benchmark team. Playing at the league’s new location, Casey Fields, Berwick showed commitment evident from the opening bounce and the Wickers took the game right up to Sacre Coeur and had established a well deserved twogoal lead by halftime.
The third quarter proved to be pivotal. Berwick kept Sacre Coeur goalless and stretched the lead to four goals at the final break. Despite conceding two late goals in the final term, the result was never in doubt, Berwick recording a comfortable 14point victory.
Scores: Berwick Wickers 5.6.36 d Sacre Coeur 3.4.22.
Goals: M. Marshall, R. Timins 2, A. Decker 1.
